Open Arms Mission is excited to announce our 1st Annual Purse Auction. The event will offer hundreds of designer and fashion bags to bid on during our live and silent auctions.
Welcome to Open Arms Mission. We are a volunteer driven organization, meeting the Physical and Spiritual needs of those in our community.
As the largest of the 3 food banks in Welland, the Mission serves an average of 850 - 950 individuals each month, which includes about 325 children under the age of 19. Grocery allotments distributed through our food bank provide each family with a healthy supply of food once a month, including meat, breads, fresh milk, and fresh produce when available.
Open Arms Mission strives to meet the physical needs of their clients through our food bank but it goes well beyond that. We provide morning coffee and snacks, Saturday lunch, seasonal support for families with children (backpacks in August & boots in November), hygiene bank, and low cost clothing, furniture and household goods through partnership with Redeemed Goods.
We also have people in the community who provide free haircuts once a month.
Many people in our community find it hard to meet their basic physical needs. We help meet physical needs so that we can develop lasting relationships with people and see them overcome life-controlling issues and grow in their spiritual journey.
We reach out to all of the clients here at the Mission with the love of God. Our ministry is a simple one of Love and Hope. For those that would hear, we provide opportunities to accept the Bread of Life. We have an ordained pastor on staff to provide pastoral care.
We are here to support you spiritually. We begin each day with devotions at 9am; join us at the Mission Centre. We take this time to start our day in God's Word and lift up praise and requests in prayer.
If you need a copy of God's Word, come in and talk to the pastor at the Mission Centre. He is available to guide you in your discovery of and relationship with the Lord Jesus.
In the mid 1980's a small group of Christian men began talking about what could be done to help the needy in our city. They stepped out in faith, naming their work, Open Arms Mission, incorporated as a charity, purchased a building and began helping the less fortunate. In early 1987, a Director was hired and the hours of operation increased.
In those early years, our food bank served approximately 80 families each month. Those numbers grew to 200 households by the mid 1990's. Assistance requests have continued to increase since then.
Open Arms Mission is not government funded. We are supported solely by individuals, organizations, churches and businesses in our community.
The Open Arms Mission Centre is a volunteer driven organization with only 3 paid staff members keeping our operating costs as low as possible.
