This Saturday, May 2, we are having a pop up food drive. Over 50 volunteers have dropped off flyers in most mailboxes in Welland. Then on Saturday, they will be collecting food from their routes, from the front steps of the houses that received the flyers. We also have 7 drop off locations for people who do not live on one of the routes.
FAQs about this Saturday's Food Drive:
1. Do I put food out on my porch or go to a drop off location?
If you received a flyer in your mailbox, you can put your donation on your porch in a location visible from the road by the time on Saturday morning indicated on your flyer and a volunteer will be by to pick it up. If you did not receive a flyer in your mailbox, you can drop off your donation at one of 7 drop off locations.
2. Where are the drop off locations?
- Seaway Mall hosted by Welland BIC outside old Target 10am-12pm
- WellSpring Community Church 10am-12pm
- Rice Road Community Church 10am-12pm
- 191 Thorold Rd 10am-2:00pm
- 322 McAlpine 10am-12pm
- Mama Misfit's Cheesecakery 12-5pm
- Grumpy Gramma’s food truck at Canadian Tire 11:30am-6pm
3. What items do you need?
The most needed items are canned tuna, salmon and fruit, granola bars, kids snacks and toilet paper. We are accepting other non-perishable food, personal hygiene products and cleaning products, but those are the most needed items. Please check best before dates on items before you donate.
4. Is this safe?
We have safety measures in place, like having our volunteers maintain social distancing from eachother and from donors (donations will be placed in bins by the donors), volunteers wearing gloves, ensuring donations don't directly touch their vehicles, staggering drop off times at our warehouse. It is a challenge, but we are trying to be as safe as possible while ensuring people get the food they need.
We have been distributing almost twice as much food as before COVID 19, so the need is great. Thank you to everyone who is volunteering and will donate!
