Open Arms Mission - Mission Statement
Open Arms Mission is called to demonstrate God's love, peace and justice to those living in economical, social and spiritual poverty in the Welland area. As a not-for-profit Christian faith organization, we acknowledge that every person is created in the image of God and has inherent value and dignity. We assist as many people as possible to experience full participation in society.
We do this by:
- Responding to basic human needs
- Inspiring people to achieve their full potential
- Offering services, programs and assistance which enable those in need to impriove their lives
- Providing opportunities for people to hear and respond to the Christian message of God's love and forgiveness through Jesus Christ
- Assisting individuals and families to break the cycle of poverty in their lives
- Being a catalyst for healthy change within the community we serve
- Encouraging those we serve to participate in and contribute to the life of their community
- Cultivating a Godly, committed and qualified team of staff and volunteers
- Developing strategic partnerships with churches, individuals, agencies, governments and businesses
Open Arms Mission - Statement of Faith
We believe......
That the Bible is the inspired Word of God, accurate and infallible, totally free from error in the original manuscripts of the Bible. It is our only authority in all matter of faith and practice.
There is only one God, eternal, infinite in power, knowledge, wisdom, love and goodness, perfect in holiness, and existing eternally in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who are in one substance and power.
The Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God who was manifest in the flesh. We believe in His virgin birth, that in Him was no sin; that He did no sin, and that He could do no sin. We believe in His atoning death, that He (the just One) died for us (the unjust ones), that He might bring us to God, that He bore our sins in His own body on the tree (cross). We believe in His bodily resurrection, present glory, immenent return and coming Kingdom.
The Holy Spirit is a divine person who dwells in every believer. We believe the Holy Spirit has baptized every believer into the spiritual body of Christ (the Church). We believe each believer should seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit at all times.
Salvation from sin, deliverance from hell and assurance of Heaven are solely on the basis of the finished work of Christ on the cross, through faith in Him, who knew no sin, but was made sin for us. We believe we are saved by grace through faith and not by works. We believe the assurance of Salvation is a present and continuing possession of every believer and is assured by the finished work of Christ.
Every person is born with an inherently sinful nature in thought, work, and deed.
Satan is a person, evil, depraved and the great enemy of God and mankind.
We believe there is a Heaven to be gained and a hell to be shunned.
Every born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ is a member of the Church universal, which is His Body.
The Lord Jesus Christ will return personally and take over this world for His own and subsequently to judge the work and reign in righteousness.
